This comprehensive training course equips participants with the fundamental skills needed to complete a successful intravenous catheter insertion properly and confidently. Critical Care Paramedics and Registered Emergency Room and Trauma Nurses teach this course. The training includes a comprehensive overview of factors that may affect an insertion, proper vein and catheter selection, how to use various catheter types, and how to safely secure a peripheral intravenous line. Through didactic classroom simulation, participants gain the proper knowledge and skills. Upon completion, participants will be trained in the proper technique for inserting a PIV, understand the correlation between a patient’s venous anatomy and catheter selection, be able to identify complications, and gain confidence in their ability to complete an insertion on the first stick.
